Investing in Your Health

What do you think of when you hear the term investment? Is it money, a house, a car, a ravishing career, stability in some area of your life outside of yourself?

What about investing in your health?

Investment in your health is one of the most important investments you can make. If you’re not well, you can’t enjoy life—it’s that simple. We believe that when you invest in your health and well-being, the other areas of our life excel naturally.

Here are 4 reasons why you should invest in your health:

Internal Happiness

Whether you’re at the gym participating in a physical activity, meditating, or having quiet and reflective time, you are giving your mind and body a priceless gift.

We are often bombarded by the craziness of life, and forget to slow down. When you can slow and simplify your thoughts, and learn to respond to situations instead of reacting, the clarity you gain will not only benefit you, but those around you. Joy will come from things that seem mundane.

We need to find gratitude for the simple things, and shift our perspective to reawaken that happiness.

Extended Longevity

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to live a life fulfilled with each experience between the cycle of birth and death? Longevity doesn’t just take its course of action through mindlessly coasting through life. Longevity is achieved through cultivating and practicing self-awareness. Becoming in sync with your body and mind and treating your body as a temple will give you the gifts of abundance in health.

One of the basic human necessities to life is food, the quality of which is often ignored. When we nourish our body with healthy foods, vitamins, minerals, and organics, we naturally feel great and perform better.

Better Relationships

The strongest and most crucial relationship you have is with yourself. If you don’t cherish, nourish, love and respect yourself and your health on a daily basis, the potential to have a healthy relationship with anyone or anything else is diminished.

When we invest in our health, we’re present for our families, friends, acquaintances and loved ones. You are able to fulfill your special role as parent, sibling, and/or child.

If you are not healthy in your mind and body, you won’t have the energy to be present for others.

Achieving Balance

How one describes balance is unique to their vision and life. Balance isn’t about trying to be something you’re not. Rather, it’s a feeling of serenity, peace and clarity from doing things that make us feel wholesome and good. Balance is having enough time for self-care and health, and also being a productive member of your family and society.

NutraCleanse™ promotes the idea of investing in your health. The naturally healthy ingredients included in NutraCleanse™ kick start and internally cleanse and purify your body so you can live the life you love.

We all love the afterglow of physical activity; that feeling after a long hard session of lifting weights, running a 5K, participating in hot yoga, being outdoors or whatever it is that makes you sweat your buns off and feel good!

Fight for Good Health

But some of us can be unsure of what and how we should feed our brain and body so the results and long term benefits are evident. We want to keep the momentum to stay on track and continue doing what we love: sweating! We are also inevitably affected by the amount of toxins around us and in the products we use, so why not counteract those and fight for our health?

Unloading Toxins

NutraCleanse™ is a perfect solution, as it aids in the process of relieving your body of toxins, impurities, and bacteria from starchy foods, drinks and unhealthy eating patterns that gets stored away in our bodies. 5 Ways to Detox Your Body, Naturally

It might be the end of January, but that doesn’t mean we’re ready to stop with the health streak. By now, most of us have cut down on alcohol and refined sugar (something we get way too much of during the holidays), and stepped up our exercise regime.

So what next? How about a detox?!

The next logical step to your New Year wellness plan is to detox. There are many ways to accomplish this, and we’ll outline some here. Check out these 5 ways to detox your body, naturally:

Drink More Water

Increasing your water intake is the number one way help your body detox. And? It’s free! This is what consuming more water will do for your body:
• Help release stored fluid, thereby decreasing puffiness.
• Clear the lymphatic system and assist in better blood circulation.
• Assist in better bowel movements, which helps detox the colon.
• Help your skin (your largest organ!) clean itself from the inside out, which clears up acne.
• Fills your stomach, which helps you to feel satiated longer between meals (ultimately assisting your digestive system in taking a load off).

Start Juicing

Juicing fruit and vegetables is a great way to get loads of antioxidants and vitamins into your body very quickly. Juicing also helps your body detox, by:
• Flooding your body with nutrients it desperately needs.
• Assisting in better quality bowel movements (again, good for the colon).
• Increases the amount of liquids entering your body, which helps to decease puffiness and flush out your urinary tract and digestive system (which both can harbor E. coli).

Add NutraCleanse™

Adding NutraCleanse™ to your smoothies, oatmeal, baking, and whatever else you can manage will greatly help with the detoxification of your colon. Here’s why:
• NutraCleanse™ is comprised of over 90% flax seed, whose fibre helps to sweep the colon clean.
• Flax has also been shown to decrease blood pressure and blood sugar, which takes the pressure off various organs.

Use a Dry Skin Brush

If you’ve never used a dry skin brush, we think you’re missing out. By slowly and rhythmically brushing your skin from top to bottom in long, meticulous strokes, you accomplish the following:
• Detox the skin by removing dead skin cells, which allows your skin to breathe and glow.
• Awaken the lymphatic system by encouraging drainage of excess fluids (this is why you work from top to bottom), and stimulate the nervous system.

Sweat. Like, A LOT.

You might already be doing this, but if you’re not, get on board. Here’s why:
• Sweating detoxes the skin.
• The exercise you do to become sweaty increases circulation and moves excess fluids from the body.
• Your organs are being worked extra hard during a sweat session; this helps them to do their jobs better, and ultimately eliminate accumulated trash.

So board the New Year detox train, and remember, our suggestions are natural, non-harmful detox solutions. They’re all safe, effective, and inexpensive. And if you haven’t tried NutraCleanse™ yet, you’re definitely in for a treat.

Good luck, and enjoy!

We know smoothies are hard to wrap your brain around when it’s cold and wet outside. Since mixing NutraCleanse™ into a smoothie is our customers’ preferred way of incorporating our product into their diet, we thought we’d offer more options that are more realistic for the current season.

Here are 3 new gluten-free winter recipes that use NutraCleanse™ (All 3 recipes adapted from Vegetarian Comfort Foods with permission from author Jennifer Browne.):

Quinoa and Bananas Breakfast Cereal

This is a great alternative to a hot breakfast cereal. Breakfast should not be boring! The walnuts add some healthy fat, and quinoa is a complete protein, which creates a perfect meal for plant-based, gluten-free eaters.

Ingredients

1 cup quinoa

2 cups unsweetened almond milk

¼ cup NutraCleanse™

1 banana, sliced

¼ cup chopped walnuts

1 tbsp. cinnamon

Method

Combine quinoa and almond milk. Bring to a simmer on the stove; then turn heat down to low. Cook until all milk is absorbed, and quinoa is fairly translucent. Remove from heat, stir in NutraCleanse™, and divide into bowls. Top with banana slices, walnuts, and cinnamon. Enjoy!

Vegetarian Chili

It’s perfect for a cold winter day, and especially if you’re in the mood for something hearty.

Ingredients

16 oz. can red kidney beans

1 yellow onion

1 green pepper

2 carrots

2 cloves garlic

3 mushrooms

3 cups diced tomatoes

1 cup water

1 tbsp. chili powder

1 tsp. red pepper chili flakes

1 tsp. onion powder

¼ tsp. garlic salt

2 bay leaves

½ cup NutraCleanse™

Method

Drain and rinse beans well, then set aside. Combine onion, green pepper, carrots, and garlic in food processor. Process for about 7-8 seconds on high; then slice your mushrooms. Combine veggie mixture with mushrooms, beans, tomatoes, water, spices, and bay leaves in crock pot. Cook on high for two hours, or low for 6 hours, stirring occasionally.

Just before serving, add NutraCleanse™ and stir into chili. Remove bay leaves, and serve hot.

Chunky Monkey Cookies

These cookies are soft and fabulous and entirely flourless. Be careful—they vanish quickly.

Ingredients

3 ripe bananas

2 cups gluten-free rolled oats

½ cup NutraCleanse™

¼ cup almond butter

¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce

½ cup dark chocolate chips

¼ cup chia seeds

1 tsp. vanilla extract

Method

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mash bananas in a large bowl, and then stir in remaining ingredients. Let batter stand for about 10 minutes (this is important—it’s how the batter thickens up). Drop by small spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet, and flatten slightly with a fork. Bake for 12 minutes. Let cool completely, and then enjoy!

NutraCleanse™: Food or Natural Health Product?

With a product like NutraCleanse™, it’s easy to see why some may assume we’re classified as a natural health product. Our product is healthy, natural, wholesome, and its ingredients are extremely beneficial to our customers’ health.

However, there are some factors about our product that don’t meet the definition of what Canada considers a natural health product (NHP).

We’re a Gourmet Food Product, Not a Natural Health Product

Under the classification of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, NutraCleanse™ is defined as a food, not an NHP:

“The term “food” (definition) is defined in the Food and Drugs Act (FDA). Natural health products (definition), which are a subset of drugs, are defined and regulated under the Natural Health Products Regulations (NHPR). These definitions are central to determining the correct classification of a product (i.e. food or NHP) and consequently whether the food or NHP regulatory framework applies.” #1

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is the governing body responsible for compliance and enforcement of regulations and requirements related to food, while Health Canada carries out this role for Natural Health Products.

Health Canada (Natural Health Products)

It is Health Canada’s responsibility to determine product classification, and Health Canada takes the following four factors into consideration when determining the classification of a product:

  • Product format
  • Product composition
  • Perception of history and use
  • Product representation

“NHPs that have been authorized for sale by Health Canada bear a Natural Product Number (NPN) or Homeopathic Medicine Number (DIN-HM) on the label. These numbers are indications that the product is classified as a NHP and falls under Health Canada‘s responsibility.” NutraCleanse™ was determined not to need one of these numbers, and therefore consumers will not find one on our packaging.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (Food)

The main difference between food and NHPs, is how they’re represented. If the label of a product claims to solve a health issue, then it’s considered a drug. Although NutraCleanse™ is extremely beneficial to many areas of health, such as being an excellent mild laxative, lowering blood sugar, and aiding in weight loss, we don’t make those claims on our packing, because our consumers know by looking at our product that it’s composed of mostly flax, and flax will help with the above afflictions.

It’s like kale: kale could come packaged with a health claim to add more fibre (therefore helping people with constipation), or be full of readily-absorbable antioxidants (thereby decreasing levels of free radicals and having an anti-cancer effect), but it doesn’t need to. People know it’s healthy, and its packaging (or lack-thereof) does not need to claim anything.

It’s the same with NutraCleanse™.  We don’t need a number, because it’s obvious what’s in our product, and there are only 5 ingredients. We’re not a natural health product; our product is food. Whole, gluten-free, healthy, nutritious food. And that’s it.

We’re not trying to be something we’re not—we’re simple, and simply healthy. To learn more about what products need NHP classification and an associated Natural Product Number (NPN) or Homeopathic Medicine Number (DIN-HM) on their labels, see the video below.

Improve Your Symptoms of IBS in 6 Simple Steps

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is characterized by a massive variety of chronic digestive ailments, including bloating, excessive gas, stomach, back, and groin pain, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, and more. Technically a diagnosis of exclusion, those who suffer from it are often also depressed, because no real diagnosis, means no real cure.

Making radical life style changes can help big time, and although it may seem impossible, it’s not. And once you feel great for the first time in years, you’ll have no problem wanting to continue along the path to good digestive health.

There are many things one can do to improve the symptoms of IBS, including the following:

detox smoothie

Consume only foods that are simple for your body to digest.

What does this mean, exactly? It means literally eat foods that your digestive system can process without much effort. Nothing heavy, and nothing that your body will naturally want to fight; you have to get rid of the common triggers. Here’s a list of common offenders to stay away from:

  • Dairy
  • Breads
  • Red meat
  • Processed foods
  • Heavy sugar
  • Caffeine and alcohol

Eat plenty of fibre, but make sure you do it properly.

Replacing dead and non-nutritive foods with ones that contribute to healing your gut is important. For many people who suffer with IBS, constipation is a real issue. To combat constipation, you have to be eating enough fibre-rich foods, but you also have to drink enough water so that the fibre can move along properly, to do its job.

Here are a few foods that are high in fibre:

  • Beans (black, navy, pinto, garbanzo (chickpeas) and kidney beans)
  • Legumes (peas, green beans)
  • Fruits (apples, pears, berries, watermelon, plums, peaches)
  • Vegetables (leafy greens, asparagus, broccoli, artichokes)
  • Roots (sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, and other tubers)
  • Whole grains (quinoa, oats, couscous, millet, and sprouted wheat)
  • NutraCleanse™ (add 1/3 cup daily to smoothies and/or oatmeal)
  • Dried fruit (figs, dates raisins, and prunes)

pure water

Stay very hydrated.

This is so important, because water helps to break down the foods you eat. It keeps your whole body moving the way it was designed. If you allow yourself to become dehydrated, you limit what your body can do for you.

Manage your stress.

This is massively important for people suffering with IBS. There is a well-known brain-gut connection, and when you’re stressed out, your digestive system responds to that. By staying relatively stress-free, you can manage your gut flare-ups. Here are some ways to help manage stress:

  • Meditate
  • Breathe consciously
  • Do yoga
  • Know your limitations when it comes to work and family
  • Get help when you need it
  • Exercise

Walking and running

Exercise daily.

The last point in the stress category gets its own little section, here. Exercise not only helps to manage stress; it also helps to keep the stomach toned and the digestive system moving. By literally moving your abdominal muscles, you help your digestive system work better.

So get moving!

Take probiotics and digestive enzymes, and eat fermented foods.

This last point is really all about maintenance. One of the known contributors to IBS is deleted digestive enzymes. Your enzymes can be low because of a variety of factors, including diet, stress, and other lifestyle issues, such as alcohol abuse and chronic illness.

So let’s get them back!

You can purchase probiotics (friendly bacteria) and digestive enzymes at your local health foods store, or grocery store pharmacy.

As for the fermented food, it contains natural digestive enzymes, too. The following foods are great for digestive health, and for those with IBS:

  • Kombucha
  • Sauerkraut
  • Pickled vegetables (different than conventional pickles)
  • Miso

By following the six steps above, you will learn how to maintain a happy, healthy gut. You don’t need to suffer with IBS; you just have to learn how to manage it properly. Want to read more? We have the book for you, and you can order it HERE:
